About DIONYSUS
DIONYSUS brings together a consortium of 14 Mediterranean partners to advance climate change adaptation and mitigation across the region through Water–Energy–Food–Ecosystem (WEFE) nexus solutions.
The project mobilises and facilitates dialogue for the co-deployment of cross-sectoral approaches that promote the efficient use and saving of water, energy, food and ecosystem resources, and it develops a Decision Support System that assesses the impact of nexus-based optimised adaptation solutions.
Context
Mediterranean agriculture faces water scarcity, rising energy costs and a changing climate at the same time, and decisions taken in one of these domains routinely undo progress in another. Treating water, energy, food and ecosystems as separate problems produces solutions that do not hold.
DIONYSUS works across those boundaries, testing adaptation options that are evaluated for their combined effect rather than for one dimension at a time.

Our role — the Karditsa Demonstration Site
The Agricultural Economics and Consumer Behaviour Lab of the University of Thessaly is a partner in the DIONYSUS consortium and runs the Greek demonstration site in Karditsa, together with the local land reclamation body TOEV Tavropou Karditsas.
The work in Karditsa is carried out through Action Panels and co-design workshops that bring together farmers, local authorities and water managers to shape long-term adaptation solutions for the area. In January 2026 the Karditsa demonstration site joined the WEFE4MED Knowledge Hub.
